Prostatitis

Male UrinaryProstatitis is an inflammation or infection of the prostate that can cause pelvic pain and difficulty with urination.  This condition is common in men and may be due to a bacterial infection, but often the cause is unable to be found.  Prostatitis can be a frustrating problem in men, and The Urology Clinic provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment.

Symptoms

  • Dysuria
  • Urgency
  • Frequency
  • Hesitancy
  • Painful ejaculation

Evaluation

The evaluation begins with a detailed history and physical examination and may include the following:

  • Urinalysis
  • Urine culture and sensitivity
  • Urinary symptom score evaluation
  • PSA
  • Digital rectal examination
  • Post-void residual measurement

Treatment

  • Antibiotics
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Sitz baths
  • Dietary modifications
  • Additional medical therapies
